HISTOIRE
Nous y revoilà. Le reboot de la célèbre licence d'iD Software. L'UAC est complètement implantée sur Mars et essaie d'exploiter l'énergie Argent, à savoir l'énergie des Enfers afin d'assurer à l'humanité une source d'énergie fiable et quasi-illimitée. Mais, les Enfers sont ce qu'ils sont et ils parviennent à corrompre certains des employés de l'UAC afin d'ouvrir un portail et ainsi envahir la base pour ensuite envahir la Terre. Avec Samuel Hayden, l'unique survivant et directeur de l'UAC, le Marine DOOM va devoir faire ce qu'il sait faire de mieux pour renvoyer tous ces démons d'où ils viennent.
GAMEPLAY
Pilier du FPS, il faut donc s'attendre à du bon, du très très bon. Et c'est le cas. Si le précédent opus, DOOM 3 sorti il y a quelques années nous proposait une ambiance plus inquiétante, en nous faisant combattre 2-3 ennemis dans le noir, à la Dead Space, celui-ci renoue avec ses origines du DOOM 1 et II. En effet, on retrouve le côté ultra-bourrin, on ne respire pas, on est sans cesse en train de casser du démon et ça fait du bien. On retrouve les mécaniques des premiers jeux, les traditionnelles cartes jaunes qui ouvrent des portes jaunes, on a un panel d'armes assez énorme (pistolet, fusil à pompe, double fusil à pompe, fusil d'assaut, lance-roquettes, et bien sûr quelques armes spéciales /!\(). Le gros ajout est celui des Glory Kills qui ajoute une touche de décapitation, d'écrasement et de démembrement, qui n'est pas du tout en trop dans ce genre de licence. On peut aussi parler des Runes qui permettent d'avoir des pouvoirs et les défis d'armes, qui permettent de débloquer des modules et d'améliorer ces derniers pour avoir des armes encore plus meurtrières. En bref, un gameplay simple mais bien pensé et un travail de pro pour un résultat vraiment satisfaisant.
GRAPHISMES & SONS
Le jeu est beau. Il est très beau, l'environnement est vraiment sympa à découvrir. C'est un plaisir de parcourir la base Marsienne de bout en bout, mais aussi /!\ . Et pour le design des ennemis. Quel plaisir de retrouver toooous nos anciens ennemis des anciens opus mais avec des textures actuelles !
Niveau musiques, c'est comme d'habitude, alors on est parti pour arracher du démon sur fond de bon métal.
DURÉE DE VIE & DIFFICULTÉ
Pour la première partie en difficulté normale, il faut compter un peu moins de 15h. Rajoutez entre 5 et 10h pour collecter tout ce qu'il y a à collecter, faire les défis, tuer tous les ennemis, etc. Le mode Arcade est sympa si vous voulez passer du temps à connaître les niveaux, faire les meilleurs combos possibles, etc. Il y a moyen de passer pas mal de temps ici. De manière générale, les succès restants seront ceux du multijoueur, pour le finir à 100%, comptez à peu près 60h, avec un 60% multijoueur 40% solo.
Le jeu n'est pas trop difficile (en tout cas en mode Normal), seuls les boss pourront donner du fil à retordre, les autres gros ennemis peuvent être vaincus normalement si vous êtes à l'aise avec le bour |

Amazing single-player experience and shows that AAA first-person shooters can be faithful to classic 90s shooters, not its own series. The multiplayer is unfortunately bland and tedious to play through, even after all the updates, and SnapMap might not appeal to everyone (I personally like it). Nonetheless, the single-player alone is worth it! |

|--> If you reach Echelon VIII you will unlock the challenge "MVP? More like LVP 1". It's not that hard to kill the top enemy three times in a match. It took me like 5 - 8 matches to achieve it. |

I cannot recommend this game enough, Id software has finally gotten it right. 10/10
Doom [1] was absolutely revolutionary for its time, and I use the word in its literal sense. It was something that I grew up with which helped push me towards CS (I modded the hell out of it and loved making levels when I was ~10). This game is a definite throwback to the original Doom in pretty much every category: gameplay style, level design, graphics, ambience, etc. As far as I am concerned, they did everything right and there is nothing they could have improved upon.

Graphics

Monster models are absolutely gorgeous and feel like graphically upgraded versions of old demons. Environment graphics are stunning, mostly due to the lighting effects. I have never seen ambient light cast so well. AND THE SHADERS! They even get it perfect with the volumetrics. Areas are purposefully flooded with sharp primary colors while still maintaining its general primary color for the area. You don't see that a lot these days, as most games go either grey (industrial) or green (Farcry).
Id's big texture engine also allows everything in the environment to have incredibly high texture resolutions.

Sound design

Sound design is also wonderful. My home system is 7.1, and I feel like I am in a horde of demons when fighting. When in enclosed spaces, it sounds like even a single demon is coming in from all directions due to ambient audio bouncing. I have NEVER seen this done before.
Voice acting is also top notch. And the silent protagonist role works perfectly, as Duke Nukem style commentary just gets annoying.

Gameplay

Gameplay is, as previous stated, pretty much the same as the original. You have your same primary set of fun guns and demons. You run around killing said demons with said guns. One minor annoyance is that the game takes an enclosed-fighting-area gamestyle. Whenever you are fighting demons, you are locked into an area of the level until they are all defeated.
Secrets work pretty much the same way as the original, but with/inside them you also get the added bonus of collectibles and datapad with game info [story, monsters, levels, etc]. There are also upgradeable systems for your power suit, guns, and stats [and runes].

Environment

The environment, another major factor of why I love this game, is just jaw droppingly solid.
The level design makes you feel like you are in natural environments. They are [generally] very open. It is rare that you hit invisible clipping planes. The old-style mapping system, while now in 3D, is also done just right.

Was disappointed with the beta, but the single player campaign is on point. Smooth and fast gameplay at max settings even on my dated (2012 vintage) gaming PC. Great update of a classic. Multiplayer is meh. |

I was a bit disappointing by the Story. I actually, believe it or not, expected a bit more. But it was not bad. When it comes to the multiplayer I feel like they shouldn/'t have left the road of the original DOOM. But again, this is just how I feel. All in all the MP is quite enjoyable. |
